Dr. E.J. Traynor, known to her friends as Eman, attended Washington University in St. Louis Missouri for her undergraduate education and for dental school. After graduating from dental school in 1991 she completed a hospital-based general practice residency at Jewish Hospital/Barnes Hospital at the Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis. Dr. Traynor then went on to specialize in Periodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There she completed a three-year residency as the Chief Resident and received her certificate in Periodontics as well as a Master’s in Science in 1995.
During her periodontal residency, Dr. Traynor was a key contributor to a groundbreaking research team verifying the link between periodontal disease and insulin-dependent diabetics. As well as contributing to the research on the systemic link between untreated periodontal disease and pre-term labor.
Dr. Traynor’s research was recognized with several awards including an award from the Southern Academy of Periodontology and an invitation to participate in the Orban Competition at the American Academy of Periodontology for her outstanding research.
Dr. Traynor is a long-time member of the Seattle Study Club, which is an international network of dentists and specialists interested in furthering their knowledge of interdisciplinary treatment to provide excellent care to each patient that comes into their practice. She has continued her contributions to the understanding of periodontal disease and to educating her colleagues by becoming, the founder/director of the Greenwich Study club, which is one of the over 260 clubs in the Seattle Study Club network located in the United States, and all over the world. She has also founded the Dental Hygiene Study Club which brings together and educates Hygienists in the Tri-State area. Dr. Traynor’s Dental Hygiene Study Club was started to help hygienists broaden their knowledge of periodontal disease and other areas of dentistry.
Dr. Traynor has been in private practice in Greenwich, Connecticut since 1999 and is voted Top Periodontist in Connecticut consistently year after year. In addition to the Greenwich Study Club, Dr. Traynor is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, the Connecticut State Dental Association, the Greenwich Dental Society, the Connecticut Society of Periodontists and the Northeast Society of Periodontists.
Dr. Traynor lives in Riverside, CT with her husband and their two dogs Dug & Daisy. When she is not busy fighting periodontal disease, Dr. Traynor enjoys spending time with her family!
