Periodontal Services Greenwich & Stamford CT

Periodontist Dr. Traynor provides a full scope of periodontal services to residents of Greenwich and the surrounding communities. We pride ourselves on our conservative approach to periodontics, focusing on minimally invasive treatment protocols whenever possible. When periodontal surgery is the only option, Dr. Traynor’s years of experience and extensive training in periodontal surgical techniques ensure successful results.

Early-stage periodontal disease, including gingivitis, is best treated with non-surgical periodontal therapy. Even in severe cases of periodontitis, non-surgical periodontal treatment often precedes surgical therapy. This is done to improve the overall tissue quality before surgery and help limit the areas requiring surgery.

LANAP

Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) targets diseased gum tissue. It uses the body’s natural healing ability to regenerate healthy tissue, including the gums, bones, and ligaments supporting your natural teeth. Dr. Traynor uses the PerioLase™ laser system for exceptional results and rapid healing without surgery.

Periodontal Maintenance

Treating periodontal disease is the first step in restoring healthy gums, but it is not enough. Periodontal maintenance, including checking periodontal pocket depth and deep teeth cleaning, is crucial to keeping the return of gum disease at bay. Dr. Traynor is committed to providing effective periodontal maintenance to her patients.

Osseous Surgery

Pocket reduction (osseous) surgery is sometimes needed to access and clean the roots of teeth. Removing tartar, bacteria, and infection below the gum line is critical to successfully treating advanced gum disease. Some types of osseous surgery can be performed by laser for faster recovery and less trauma to the area.

Alloderm® Gum Grafting

Gum recession exposes teeth roots to bacteria and gingivitis. Left untreated, recession leads to periodontal disease, tooth sensitivity, and tooth loss. Alloderm gum grafting uses donor tissue to stimulate the regrowth and attachment of new, healthy gum tissue.

Pinhole Surgical Technique™

The Pinhole Surgical Technique is the latest advancement in gum recession treatment. Dr. Traynor used the pinhole technique to create a tiny hole in the gums, adding collagen to the area to encourage gum growth without incisions or sutures.

Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery

Cosmetic periodontal surgery can correct a variety of issues with the appearance of your smile. Dr. Traynor can improve a gummy smile, restore bone mass from missing teeth, and correct gum recession using various surgical techniques.

Botox® for TMJ

Botox injections can bring relief to patients suffering from Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. The widespread symptoms of TMJ disorder, including headaches, jaw pain, teeth grinding, and limited range of jaw movement, are minimized or eliminated through strategic injection of Botox to relax facial and jaw muscles.

Guided Bone and Tissue Regeneration

Following treatment of periodontal disease or gum recession, guided bone and tissue regeneration encourages the regrowth of healthy bone. Biologic membranes are placed between the gums and the tooth roots, stimulating the body’s ability to grow bone and stabilize the area.

Frenectomy

Frenectomy is a simple surgical procedure to release the band of muscle (frenum) connecting the inside of the lip to the gums. In individuals with too much or intrusive frenum, gaps in the teeth and gum recession are often complications. A frenectomy releases the attachment for greater comfort and an improved smile.

Gingivectomy

Removal of excess gum tissue is sometimes needed for aesthetic, functional, or health reasons. Gingivectomy surgically removes excess tissue that makes the teeth appear shorter or interferes with proper oral hygiene.

Bruxism Treatment

Teeth grinding (bruxism) can lead to excessively worn teeth, pain, arthritis, and difficulty opening and closing the mouth. Dr. Traynor offers several bruxism treatment options, including oral appliances, to relieve the pain and prevent teeth grinding.

Scaling & Root Planing

After professional teeth cleaning, scaling and root planing are additional treatments to thoroughly clean periodontal pockets, remove bacteria, and encourage reattachment of healthy gum tissue to teeth roots. Scaling and root planing are effective, minimally invasive treatments for mild to moderate gum disease.

Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening may be needed due to a gummy smile, gingivitis, or to prepare for placement of dental restorations. Dr. Traynor carefully removes excess gum tissue and recontours the area for a natural appearance.

Bite Adjustments

Bite adjustment therapy is used when the teeth do not align properly, throwing the jawline out of alignment, leading to pain and uneven tooth wear. Bite adjustment options include braces, clear aligners, reshaping or reconstruction of the teeth, oral appliances, and dental splints.

Oral Cancer Screening

Dr. Traynor checks her patients yearly for signs of oral cancer. Early detection and treatment of oral cancer is essential for patient recovery and wellness. Because oral cancer is often painless, oral cancer screenings are particularly important.
