Anchored and secured in place
Unlike traditional dentures, which just rest on your gums and are then held in place with a dental adhesive, implanted supported dentures are anchored and secured in place with tiny titanium implant posts, which allow the denture to snap into place for stability. Implant supported dentures can be custom designed for you if you have become frustrated with the common issues associated with conventional dentures, like the slipping and shifting, restricted diets, and annoying discomfort.
Traynor Periodontics & Implants provides a variety of surgical and non-surgical services for the treatment of periodontal issues. We are well-known for our excellent communication style and warm presence. We are extremely effective with all clinical practices due to our consistent engagement with the innovative, technological improvements in the dental industry. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are very conservative in our treatment recommendations and limit surgery to the areas where it is absolutely necessary. Call Traynor Periodontics & Implants at 203-661-5885 with any questions or to make an appointment to discuss if implant supported dentures are right for you.

Are they right for you?
Are You a Candidate for Implant Supported Dentures?
Your team at Traynor Periodontics & Implants has found that implant supported dentures can very well be an appropriate option for quite a few patients. There is no age restriction if you wish to have this procedure performed, although there are issues to identify with your health, so as to not create a complication with the surgical aspects required. Implant supported dentures might also not be appropriate if you have insufficient jawbone density. If you do not have enough jawbone density, we can discuss whether a simple bone graft is a possibility for you.
The process
The Implant Supported Denture Procedure
The actual process of having implant supported dentures placed will take a little patience on your behalf. We will start with your initial evaluation, where Traynor Periodontics & Implants will review your medical and dental history, conduct a complete oral examination, and capture x-rays and necessary scans to determine if implant supported dentures will be the right solution for you.
After this, we will perform a complete examination of your jawbone to ensure that the bone has the structural integrity to successfully support an implant. If you are a viable candidate for this procedure, and the precise locations have been determined for the implants, the next step will be administering a local anesthetic to numb your soft tissue prior to surgically placing the titanium posts into your jawbone. Titanium is used because it naturally integrates with the bone.
After the placement of the implant posts, you will need several months to allow the titanium posts to integrate or grow with your jawbone. During this healing process, Traynor Periodontics & Implants will provide a temporary set of dentures, which we will customize for you. When we have determined the posts are integrated, we will add abutments or extensions to the posts. After allowing your gums to heal for two weeks, we can finally place your permanent implant supported dentures that have been custom fabricated in a dental lab.
Aftercare Following a procedure
Proper Care for You Implant Supported Dentures
Just like your natural teeth, it is extremely important that you maintain good daily cleaning habits. It is crucial that you consistently clean the appliance, and clean around your gums, artificial teeth, and the attachments. In addition to exercising consistent good self-care at home, it is also essential that you continue scheduling regular preventative appointments every six months. During these routine checkups, Traynor Periodontics & Implants will compliment your efforts by conducting cleanings and to monitor the state of your oral health, catching any issues before they develop. We will always check your implants and take x-rays when necessary to ensure that your dentures, attachments, and implants are still positioned correctly.
